Q: What is organic farming?
A: Organic farming is a form of agriculture that excludes or strictly limits the use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides to maintain soil productivity and control pests. Organic farmers use such methods as rotating crops, composting and biological pest control which uses less energy and produces less energy and produces less waste than conventional farming methods.

Q: Why is it important to eat organic?
A: -Organically grown vegetables have greater nutritional value and are free of toxic chemicals.

Q: What products does Snow Hill Organic Farm sell?
A: Our seasonal products include Black Angus grass-fed organic beef, wildflower honey, organic compost, firewood and woodchips.  We also grow a diverse orchard of fruit trees including varieties of peach, plum, apple, pear and cherry.  Additionally, we grow seasonal produce including tomatoes, squash, eggplant, carrots, cabbage, broccoli, scallions and herbs.  All products available can be found under Seasonal Products for Purchase.

Q: What is wildflower honey?
A: Our wildflower honey is raw, natural and pure created in our own apiary. Our bees pollinate the farm’s fruit trees and other plant life. Beekeeping is a positive method for retaining the most natural conditions for healthy growth and harvest.

Q: What is compost?
A: Compost forms naturally almost anywhere and acts as land’s natural fertilizer. Leaves that have dropped from trees, grass clippings from mowing the lawn, dead plants and animals are examples of organic materials that break down or decompose. The rich, dark-brown, crumbly, soil-like material that results is called compost. You can make your own compost from leaves, grass clippings, vegetable and fruit scraps and peels, coffee grounds and filters, tea bags, wood chips, straw, and small twigs.
Using compost instead of commercial fertilizers improves soil texture, structure, aeration and increases the soil’s capacity to retain water.

Q: What does "aquaponics" mean?
A: Aquaponics refers to a synergistic process that integrates plant and fish culture into a single, mutually-reinforced and beneficial recirculation system. Both plants and fish have the ability to thrive because of the relationship between three primary organism: plants, fish and nitrifying bacteria. Aquaponics systems mimic the condition found in lakes, ponds and waterways.
